TechWeb • techweb.com
I got my first fulltime web designer gig at
TechWeb.com (Part of CMP Media), where I worked on a whole
network of tech oriented sites. This was the ideal transition
for me,
having
previously
worked in various technology roles at McCann-Erickson.
As a computer tech, I was used to working
independently. As a web designer for TechWeb, I
had a chance to work with some of the finest creative and
production people in the business. Instead of overseeing the
workflow as I had in my Technology Specialist position at McCann,
I was now part of the machine.
The learning curve was steep as a designer,
but I hit the ground running and was up to speed quickly. This
was a great opportunity for me to develop my application skills
and design
skills. At the same, the
position kept me abreast of all of the changes and
trends
in
the IT
world, giving me a broader view of the industry.
I worked on designs for a whole range of web
publications including TechWeb.com, TechEncyclopedia.com, TechSearch.com,
PlanetIT.com, Byte.com, TechShopper, FileMine, TechCalendar.com,
and TechWeb Today. In addition, I designed show coverage site
for Networld Plus Interop (N+I) and PC Expo.
My daily responsibiities included designing
news feature graphics to draw in readers to the top stories
of the day. During my stay at TechWeb, I must have designed
hundreds of daily graphics.
I moved from TechWeb.com to another CMP publication,
InformationWeek early 2001.
For the year 2000, TechWeb was awarded the CMP
Media Editorial Award for best Large Website. |
